Texas Stimulus Projects
President Obama has made it a priority to establish transparency in how stimulus money is being spent. I am looking for web sites that give us visibility as to how the money is being spent in Texas.
I recently reported the projects listed for Texas/Austin (see my blog, Texas Pork)
I revisited this site and found that voting is ongoing as to what we think of the listed projects. The following caught my eye for projects listed in and around Austin:
- The vote ratio is biased towards negative which means to me that there is little enthusiasm for the projects listed. I hope authorities will relook at some of these projects as they certainly look like pork.
- Cap Metro receives a major portion of funds, over $360M, for mostly rail projects. The vote ratio is barely positive. I would think Austinites would really get behind and support these type projects.
- The Raul Alvarez Disc Golf Course gets the razzie award with the most negative vote count, -2322; followed by Boardwalk along Lady Bird Lake, -764. These projects need a serious review as to criticality and appear to be pork.
Another site I found is
http://www.txdot.gov/news/009-2009.htm
which shows their plans for state spending on roads.
If anyone knows of other sites that give us insight into the spending, please post it.
