A 21 Million Dollar Governor's Mansion?

What is really going on with our state? I was watching the news last night and saw that Rick Perry wants to use some of money allotted to our state from the stimulus package the rebuild the Governor's mansion? This is utterly ridiculous! That money is to help our country get out of an economic crisis, not for Rick Perry and his wife to have a new house. I know that the Governor's mansion needs to be rebuilt, but 21 million dollars? That's going a little too far. That money could be going towards rebuilding my six year old daughter a new school since her school is so overcrowded that they have almost 30 children in each class and instead they want to build a new house? It just doesn't make any sense to me. Someone needs to do something about this and manke our Governor open his eyes and see that this money isn't for his use only. It is supposed to be helping our economy.

  • Rick Perry cares about one thing only...Power.  Well 2 things, votes because that's how you get power. If it doesn't get him a vote for power, he doesn't care.

  • Gotta disagree. The Mansion belongs to the people of Texas and is reserved for the use of our governors.
    Perry will one day move out and the house will be used by his successors-Democrat or Republican.

    I agree it is a frustrating situation. We could ask private funds to be used and that is, in fact, happening. However, this allows poitically motivated people to incur favor with the Governor (simular to donating to build a Presidential Library)

    So there is no easy answer. All I think we can agree on is a gutted, ruined Governor's Mansion is unacceptable. One nutjob can not be allowed to destroy a true treasure of the state.

    $21 Million is a lot but at least it will employ carpenters, masons, construction crews, and historians. That should help a little.
